General remarks
- Empac environment commission is chaired by Hervé Lanquetot (Crown).
- Secretariat is organised by Niko Tessin (Verband Metallverpackungen e.V.).
- The commission meets 3 times a year. In addition there are meetings by working groups and the TSC 28 commission that deals exclusively with REACH (see below).
Regular topics
- IPPC and the use of solvents as described in the BREF Document "Surface treatment using solvents" (STS). Empac EC has published a guideline for Empac members on this.
- Through participation within ESVOC Group, evolution on VOC Emission regulations is thouroughly followed up. Empac EC regularly updates the status for all European plants regarding the amount of solvents used and emitted.
- The consequences of the new European Chemicals Policy (REACH) for our industry are discussed within Empac EC and together with the suppliers within a separate Commission (TSC 28) which consists of members of EC and the Empac Food Contact Commission (FCC). This group has produced model letters for customers and suppliers as well as guidelines and is working on Generic Exposure Scenarios.
- Empac EC is following up the developments in the field of the Packaging and Packaging Waste policy and is prepared to take any necessary action in relation to packaging and packaging waste policy evolutions. In this context the commission has produced a Guidance Document on the subject of the Essential Requirements.
